Energy Efficient Windows
from:With all of the talk about the 2009 Stimulus Packaging and potential Tax Credits for the installation of new energy efficient windows and doors, it’s a good time to investigate what it’s all about. After all, energy efficient windows can save you thousands of dollars in heating and air conditioning costs over the years. And you’ll be more comfortable when you’re enjoying the comfort of your home too!
So what really makes a window energy efficient anyway? Aren’t all windows supposed to keep out the cold air, rain, ice, and heat? The answer is yes and no. Confused?
Just like anything else, there are windows that do a minimal job and those that do a more efficient, high quality job. Those that offer the highest quality are the ones that result in the best value for your money. When you’re investing in window replacement and looking at window styles and options, it’s always nice to know that you’re getting value for your money.
Energy efficient windows have some of these common characteristics and it’s important to evaluate window options before making your decisions:
· Wood composites, vinyl, and fiberglass frames are very popular with energy efficient windows. That’s because they reduce heat that is transferred and help insulate better – keeping the hot and cold where it should be and not allowing it to escape in or out of your home.
· The newest energy efficient windows have two panes of glass and the middle is filled with an air or gas-filled space. This creates a very effective insulation barrier and is much more effective than the traditional single pane windows.
· Window panes are important and ENERGY STAR qualified windows even have three or more panes of glass – this offers much more energy efficiency and makes them great sound insulators at the same time. The durability and structural integrity of these multi-paned windows is unsurpassed.
· Low-E glass is a special coating that reflects infrared light and helps keep the heat in and the cold out during different seasons. But just as importantly, this Low-E glass coating is great for reflecting those damaging and dangerous UV rays from the sun. Not only do they protect you and your family, they protect your furniture, curtains, blinds, and other things that are often damaged by ultraviolet sun rays.
· Some energy efficient windows have gas-filled panes that include argon, krypton, or other gases. They are safe, colorless, odorless gases that insulate between the panes much better than air.
· Energy efficient windows also have features that make them better because they reduce heat flow and prevent condensation. No more foggy, cloudy windows.
There are many reasons to investigate window replacement today. The new energy efficient windows are one great reason. The potential Tax Credit from the Stimulus Package is another incentive to move forward with this project. Take a look at the available options for window styles and options and then get started with this project so you can begin enjoying your new view tomorrow!
