How to repair dry wall or plaster wall
from:Plastered walls can bring a lot of beauty and warmth to your home. 50 or 60 years ago, it was a norm to use plastered walls. With time, the idea has changed and today it has become a norm to use joint compounds in walls. Having said this, connoisseurs still prefer plastered walls and believe that it is the way to go for pursuing artistic refinery. Plastered walls can also be used for arranging various motifs and textures. Yes, they are also vulnerable to different kinds of cracks. The cracks may be formed owing to a precious wall hanging or it might have been the result of a certain hole or drill. In both such cases, it is not a reason to lose hope or patience, as there are quite a few ways to get the better of this problem.
The wherewithal
You will require a sander or what is generally known as light coarse sandpaper. You will also need a drywall knife. Finally, there is the need for drywall compound. This has got to be in accordance to the volume of the project. The compound that you get is already in a mixed formula and thus you need not do anything except for beginning the process. First you need to sand any additional drywall that may be a part of the whole edge. If there is any dust as such, it needs to be removed. This will make the compound stick better to the holes of the wall. Do not leave an extra sheet of the compound, as it will only make the process of sanding difficult.
Keep the sanding limited
As soon as the compound gets dry, sand off the area. Again, it is important to notice that extra sanding can also take the sheen off the repair process. The idea is to paint the surface when it gets extra smooth so that the effects of sanding cannot be felt any longer. Sometimes, you will also require a drywall patch. This happens when a child brushes the doorknob in.
Bigger dent for a better repair
For such a fissure, it is recommended to dent the fissure even more. A bigger lacuna is required as it lets the joint compound stick in properly. Register the patch now. The patch will stick well to the compound and thus clean up the aesthetic loss of face. Also, do not sand too much, just as we had suggested earlier.
And to sum it up
You can also look forward to seal the seams with a drywall tape. This may help in shoving the metal studs. We have just discussed a few of the ways to repair dry walls or plaster walls. Thankfully, most of them do not need an expert and can be practiced the DIY way.
