Remodeling the Living Room

from:

Remodeling the living room can become expensive when moving walls in the room are part of the project. Adding new features to add character to the room also can be a pricey addition. It is wise to choose the style that best fits the rest of your home.

The new appearance for the living room should coordinate with the other rooms of the home so it flows into the décor. Avoid making new changes to the architecture that will make the room differ from the rest of home. The changes should complement the home and distract from it.

When remodeling the living room, decide the type of furnishings for the room. Try to keep them neutral so the classical look will last for years. You will avoid having to remodel in the future if you do this for the room. Select the style reflecting the look you are trying to create. Use the styles to set the mood for the room to make it comfortable and cozy.

Paint the ceilings and walls a color coordinating with the color of the furnishings. Since you are using a neutral color, use neutral colors for the paint such as off white, eggshell, or soft vanilla. The lighter colors will also brighten the room creating a nicer atmosphere.

Use chair rails, crown moldings, and decorative baseboards to add to the charm of the details in the room. The extras touches will enhance the appearance of the décor and add a classy style while maintaining the comforting feeling you are trying to achieve with the room.

Remove the older carpet with new carpet, wood floors, or tiles to create a natural appearance. Select the surface of the flooring based on the intended use of the room. If the room is a high traffic area, select a floor covering that can be resistant to the amount of traffic the room will have. For the classical living room, wood flooring creates a warming effect. The casual living room is better suited for a luxurious soft carpet providing comfort for the kids lying on the floor.

Use new curtains or drapes that are in the color scheme as the furnishings but in a highlighting color possibly a shade darker to add to appeal and contrast. The darker the curtains the more sunlight they will prevent from entering the room.

Use plants, wall hangings, framed art, and vases to accessorize the theme in the room. Use artificial floral arrangements to provide additional warmth to the décor in the color scheme of the furniture and drapes. Place the wall decorations at eye level to cause the guests to view your displays.

Use runners and area rungs in the same color themes to create an illusion to the current tables and flooring. The soft touches of the rugs make an attractive addition to any room.
