How to Keep Your Computer Safe from the Internet

from:

The Internet may truly be the greatest invention since sliced bread with all the advantages it offers but along with those advantage comes the threat of danger as well. There is the danger that your computer will be harmed by viruses and various kinds of malware. In order to keep your computer safe, you will want to become familiar with Internet safety and be proactive when it comes to Internet safety and security.

Protect Your Computer With Antivirus Software

Installing antivirus software on your computer is the best way to protect it from viruses and malware. However, you can’t stop there. Far too many people let their antivirus protection expire without updating it. Some people simply don’t understand how it works: while you will still be protected from known viruses, your computer will no longer be protected from the new ones. And the rate that new viruses migrate into cyberspace is astonishing! Other people do, in fact, realize the danger but just don’t want to go to the expense to update their antivirus software. Since they haven’t had any problems in the past, they’re convinced that updating isn’t a priority.

Should You Use Free Antivirus Software?

Some people swear by the free antivirus software and brag that they have never had a problem and have never spent a dime to protect their computer. While there is some good free antivirus software on the market, it doesn’t offer near the protection that the paid versions do and at about $3 per month, it just doesn’t make sense not to offer your computer as much protection as possible. One of the key differences between the free antivirus software and the paid versions is that with the free ones, you have to perform a scan of your computer in order to find any problems and with the paid version, you are instantly protected against viruses. Instead of letting a virus or malware sit on your computer and do damage until you find it and remove it, doesn’t it make much more sense to stop it in its tracks before it can do any damage at all?

Take Advantage of Free Trial Offers

If you’re going to spend good money protecting your computer, you want to know that you are getting a quality product at a good price. While you can easily comparison shop online, there is a way to ensure that you will be happy with the product you choose. Most of the manufacturers of premium antivirus software offer free trial periods so that you can evaluate their software before you lay out any money for it. Take advantage of these offers and completely evaluate the software before you make a purchase. Try more than one and compare the features against the cost until you decide which one is best for your needs. It will be far less trouble and much cheaper than replacing your computer if a virus should invade it.
