Suspended Ceiling Installation Tips
from:A suspended ceiling is a great method of covering up your ceilings or the non-existing one. They work very well in most spaces, including in basements. A variety of types of suspension methods are available, but the most common are those that offer a grid like pattern where ceiling tiles are laid into place to cover up anything that you want hidden, including pipes and base flooring. With a few helpful friends, you can get the suspended ceiling installed in a few days, but it does take some planning and work before hand to ensure the process goes smoothly.
To help you to make the process of installing suspended ceilings a bit easier, consider the various tips listed here.
Measure things out beforehand. One of the biggest mistakes people make is not planning the process ahead of time. How much headspace will you have if you install the suspended ceiling?
Keep in mind zoning laws in your area. This is especially important if you have a new construction property where you will have inspectors looking over the details of your project. Most areas require at least 7 ½ feet of headspace.
If you are planning to put a suspended ceiling in place over the top of an existing one, you will need at least four inches of space in between. This gives you enough room to tilt in the tiles to position them on the grid.
Ensure every step in the process is leveled. If you do not take the time to ensure that each runner and modeling piece is in place properly, you will end up with a slanted or tilted ceiling which will look bad after you have completed the project.
For wiring that may run to electrical outlets or even to light fixtures, you will need to cover them with a flexible metal conduit. Most code requirements state that there must be some form of protection put in place here.
When installing a suspended ceiling, take the time to consider the various types of suspension ceilings on the market. Some offer a variety of different grid patterns. Some are wood, others are plastic or even metal. Choose what works for your budget and for the look you are after.
Remember too that you do not have to use drywall or boring tiles to fill in your grid once it is put up. For a bit more of your budget,, you can get patterned or even textured ceiling tiles to place into the grid. This can help you to create a great looking space that no one will imagine was this easy to install. Take the time to do it right and this type of suspension design will last years.
