Tin Ceiling: Tips For Installation
from:If you have decided that you will be installing tin ceilings in your home, by all means, go for it! These are an excellent investment in your home's layout and design. They add value, interest and appeal to a space. Now that you have made the decision to do so, it is time to consider what to buy, how many to buy and of course how to install them. In traditional tin tiles, it would take weeks to get the installation process complete, as each piece had to be painstakingly placed in line. Today, with so many tin ceiling tile options, the installation process may take a few days and a few do it yourselfers to complete.
One of the first things to consider is the tin ceiling layout. You could go left to right, row by row to complete the space. On the other hand, you may want to use a framing boarder or even place the pieces in a diagonal fashion so that they run corner to corner diagonally over the ceiling. Another option is to use a unique style, with rosettes or other intricate detailing in a pattern in the room, filling in the rest with filler or solid tin. In any of these options, it is best to first lay out the style on the floor piece by piece. That way, you can easily position then and change them out if needed.
To help you to get the right look, you may want to use a piece of wood as an underlayment on the ceiling. This is what you will tack each of the tin ceiling tiles into place on. A good choice is mahogany but you can also use plywood for the lower expense. Before putting the wood onto the ceiling, you will want to lay out a grid pattern on the wood. This will show you where each piece will go, as you position them on the ceiling. It is far easier to draw and fill in this pattern when it is on the ground rather than on the ceiling.
It is also important to consider the place where you will start the installation of the tin ceiling tiles. If you have panels, rather than single tiles, you may want to start at the wall that is farthest away. You want to choose the area of the room that is most visible from the main entrance. If you are adding a medallion or any type of center panel, you will want to start there and work your way out. This gives you the best finished look.
Take your time to get the tin ceiling tiles in place properly. It is well worth investing a bit more time to complete the job and be able to admire your hard work.
